The Guwahati Branch Office Laboratory (GBOL) is one of the 8 laboratories of BIS, setup to support the Conformity Assessment scheme. It has been a forerunner in the frontier areas of Conformity Assessment for Steel, Cement, Plywood, PDW Containers and Asbestos products.The GBOL has testing facility of over 30 products of different ISs.
The objectives of the Lab is to conduct high quality testing, training and promote centralized facilities for new and advanced techniques in the area of modern day testing.
MAJOR TIMELINE
1972 – An Inspection office of BIS was functioning in Tinsukia since 1972 along with test facility for Plywood Tea Chest Product.
1987 – Branch office and Laboratory at Guwahati started in 1987 in its then premises at R.G. Baruah Road.
2014 – GBOL laboratory present – Presently GBOL is operating from its owned premises in HOUSEFED Complex, Dispur, Guwahati, since January 2014.
