1.  Where to get my product tested for the purpose of applying for the various conformity assessment schemes of BIS?

2.  Does BIS use outside laboratories for testing purposes and what is the scheme for same?

Yes, BIS uses the test facilities available in BIS own 8 Laboratories, BIS recognized Labs which have been recognized under BIS Laboratory Recognition Scheme under Group-1 and Test Facilities available in Government Laboratories which have been empanelled under Group-2.

3.  What is the process for getting my Laboratory Recognized by BIS?

The laboratory desiring BIS recognition/empanelment has to submit the application has to be submitted online through the LIMS portal (lims.bis.gov.in). The detailed steps for submission of applications are available in the ‘USER MANUAL’ available on the LIMS Portal.

4. What is the fee structure for getting my Labs Recognized by BIS?

The Fee Structure for Laboratory Recognition is given in the Laboratory Recognition Scheme and subsequent amendments.

5. Where can I find the test facilities available in any particular BIS Lab /BIS Recognized Lab?

The details of the test facilities available in the BIS labs, BIS recognised labs and BIS empanelled labs are available at LIMS portal (lims.bis.gov.in). For Indian Standard wise information of the laboratory, select the ‘Search by IS number’ tile on the LIMS portal.

6. Do BIS labs test products for any customer?

No, BIS Laboratories only tests the product for the Conformity Assessment Schemes of BIS and does not carry out commercial testing. For commercial testing, the services of BIS recognised/empanelled labs as well as other outside laboratories can be utilised.

7. I am a manufacturer and want to get my product tested in BIS lab/BIS recognised lab/BIS empanelled lab for applying for license/recognition under option-2 (simplified procedure), how should I submit my product sample for testing? What are the testing charges for such samples?

The product samples can be sent to BIS labs only after generation of test request through BIS Manakonline Portal (Manakonline.in). After the generation of test request, the sample can be sent to the laboratory selected from the portal through courier or can be deposited in person. The testing charges are based on the testing requirements of the Indian Standards and are to be enquired from the concerned laboratory only.

8. I want to apply for registration of my products under Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS). How should I submit my product for testing?

For registration of products under CRS, please visit crsbis.in and follow the procedures given therein for creation of account. The test request for the product is generated on CRS portal and after the selection of laboratory, the test request is transferred to LIMS Portal. The address and contact details of the laboratory as well as the testing charges of the product are available on the LIMS portal (lims.bis.gov.in).

9. I had submitted my product sample for testing; however, I have not received the testing report. I am unable to get any response from the concerned laboratory. What steps should I follow for getting the test report?

In case the laboratory does not complete the testing in adequate time, the details of the sample and the laboratory may be communicated to LRMD at lrmd-bis@bis.gov.in (LRMD-BIS@BIS.GOV.IN) and related grievances can also be raised on the ‘Online Complaint Registration’ portal on BIS website.

10. Do BIS Laboratories undertake Internship / summer trainings for college students?

BIS Laboratories undertake interns in line with the BIS Laboratory Internship Scheme. The details of the scheme are available at BIS website under “Laboratory Services” section. The applications for internship are required to be submitted to the concerned BIS Lab.
