During 1981-82, EROL was set up as a full-fledged Regional Laboratory. With major expansion plans, it was decided to relocate the Centre to the spacious present-day campus.
The Eastern Regional Laboratory (EROL) is a premier laboratory of BIS, set up to support the Conformity Assessment Scheme. It has been a forerunner in frontier areas of conformity assessment for Steel, Cement, and Jute products.
The objective of the laboratory is to conduct high-quality testing, training, and to promote centralized facilities for new and modern techniques in interdisciplinary areas of modern-day science.
The laboratory has NABL Accreditation, which was valid up to September 2023.
