To protect consumer with the spurious quality of products, BIS operates various conformity assessment schemes. Under these schemes, BIS grants licenses/registration to Indian and international manufactures.
Before granting the licence, the conformity of the products is checked against applicable Indian Standards. Here the role of a competent laboratory comes in picture. To serve the nation with a quality product and also to protect our valuable consumers, BIS took a step forward in early sixties and developed 1st laboratory at BIS, Head Quarters in 1962 in the basement of Manakalaya. BIS follows a well-established complaint redressal procedure. Complaints are recorded centrally at Complaints Management and Enforcement Department (CMED). Complaints can be made both offline and online. Online complaint can be made through mobile app BIS CARE or by use of Consumer Engagement Portal.
