About Library The technical library of the Bureau is a National Resource Centre for information on standards and related matters and meets the needs of Industry, trade, Government, researchers and consumers alike. The Bureau’s Library system comprises the Headquarters Library (New Delhi). Library Collection The collection at the Headquarters Library numbers is more than Four Lac standards, specifications, codes, test methods issued by different ISO members bodies, like • International Organization for Standardization (ISO), • International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), • British Standards Institution (BSI), • Japanese Industrial Standards(JIS), • Deutsches Institut Fur Normung (DIN) German Standards, • American Society for Testing and Material(ASTM), • American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and • Ministry of Defence, JSS(India). • More than two thousand Hindi Books • Scientific Books Authorization of Library Standards/Books/Journals/Magazine etc. i) As per the library policy, Library is only authorized to provide watermark copies of Standards for BIS library registered users & officials only. ii)Any RTI application related to the Standard/Books/Magazines/Journals or similar, received in Library Department directly or routed through any other Department will be considered by LSC. In both situations (direct/routed application) LSC will thoroughly examine the application and search the desired information from databank, if record/document available in LSC databank same may be provided to the Concerned department only in softcopy. Thereafter Concerned Department will take the decision, whether desired information may be provided to the applicant or not, in the interest of BIS and compliance the RTI Act. Library Membership: Membership of the Library is available to individuals and organizations for reference purpose only by paying an amount of Rs.2,000/-(Two thousand only) plus 18% GST . The period of membership is one year i.e. from April to March. No borrowing/lending/hardcopy will be made by the Library. The Library shall be open to readers on all working days from 09 30 h to 17 00 h. Members can consult the Library at BIS HQ, New Delhi.
