Noida Branch Office, acronymed as NOBO, is one of the 35 Branch offices of Bureau of Indian Standards, the National Standards Body of India. It comes under the jurisdiction of the Central Regional Office of BIS. Noida Branch Office was created on 01 March 2021 due to the rapid increase in BIS’s presence in the state and in order to provide better services to the stakeholders.

NOBO is currently catering to 26 Districts, 17 districts of Uttar Pradesh (Agra, Aligarh, Bulandshahr, Hathras, Mathura, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Jhansi, Kasganj, Firozabad, Farrukhabad, Bareilly, Budaun, Mainpuri, Etah, Etawah, Jalaun and Mahoba); 6 districts of Madhya Pradesh (Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Niwari, Datia and Shivpuri) and 3 Districts of Rajasthan (Karauli, Bharatpur and Dholpur). Major Activities of NOBO include Grant of product certification licenses and monitoring their performance, Grant of Hallmarking registrations and monitoring their performance, Standards promotion and Consumer Awareness & Protection Activity.

NOBO is certifying 336 different Indian Standards and major products covered under certification include Plastic Pipes & Fittings, Electric cables & Conductors, Steel Products, Packaged Drinking Water, Outdoor Type Distribution Transformers, Safety of Toys- Non Electric /Electric, Plugs and Socket, Energy Meter, Hand Pumps, Footwears, Door Handles etc. Approximately 80% of NOBO licenses are held by MSME Industry and more than 60% of licenses are under the voluntary certification regime. In addition to the above, NOBO has 1828 Registrations for hallmarking and currently 26 Assaying and Hallmarking Centres are working in the districts under its jurisdiction

With more and more products being brought under the ambit of Compulsory Certification by the Central Government and with the development of quality consciousness amongst the consumers, around 20 new certification licences are added each month for different products under NOBO.
